McCarrick Construction is a family-run construction company operating out of Chester-le-Street, County Durham, since 1953. Over the years, the company has maintained a reputation for delivering high quality work and are known for providing a comprehensive and efficient service across a wide variety of commercial and education sector construction projects.
We are fully aware of the heavy workload of the average school management team. We tailor our processes to enable our workforce and your school staff to work together in ways that impede your day-to-day school schedules as little as possible while still achieving excellent and timely outcomes.
As a local construction company of directly-employed and highly trained operatives, we are able to exercise a high level of control over our work. Our well-established and versatile team has a wealth of experience and is able to finish commercial jobs to excellent standards of workmanship, ensuring a positive experience for our clients.
Our contribution to Construction Alliance North East's call to arms gained traction in several industry news outlets. We were calling for planning reform to speed up the process of planning approval and to cut costly delay that often contributes to SME contractors going into administration.
“We are hearing more and more from our network about the difficulties that planning delays are causing, not only directly with contractors but also businesses across the wider built environment landscape."

"We experienced excellent service from McCarrick Construction when they carried out a complicated programme of technical repairs to Marchbank School. We were obliged to source skilled craftspeople because the school is set in a Grade II listed and of architectural significance. The nature and quantity of works required the programme to span term time and holiday periods and this was a particularly challenging feat that was expertly executed.
The school staff were extremely busy so it was essential that McCarrick could be trusted entirely to get on with the job, creating as little disturbance as possible to them or their pupils. McCarricks repaired and restored the roof, chimney stacks, stained glass window and numerous areas of damaged brickwork façade. McCarrick worked with us to restore ornate terracotta balconies to their former glory, which look great. I would highly recommend their services."

"McCarrick Construction have been successful in being awarded several projects during the past couple of years. Quality is at the heart of what we do within NHS Blood and Transplant, and McCarrick Construction always provides a diligent service to us, and their workforce are extremely professional too.
The Newly refurbished Donor Centre in Newcastle is a testament of their ability to work closely with the NHSBT client, in an extremely challenging live Donor environment, to achieve the very best outcome.
We would like to thank the McCarrick Construction team in helping us deliver such a brilliant project, but more importantly, for being part of a project that supports our pursuit of saving and improving lives.”
G. Ashby, National Construction Programme Manager, NHS Blood and Transplant
"Matthew, I am delighted with the work that has been carried out. The timely completion of the work has meant that the children have enjoyed playing in the area directly affected since the first day back. This work has made a huge improvement to our aging building. As always Gary and his team have been a pleasure to work with."
L. Adamson, Head Teacher, Burnhope Primary School
"McCarrick Construction went above and beyond from the start, advising on material options and the installation programme for our Daily Mile Track. They were polite and considerate at all times. The logistics around the safety of the pupils whilst the work was ongoing was at the forefront of their minds and I felt I could trust them to get on with the job whilst I focused on the daily running of the school. We are delighted with the end result."
A. Brinton, Headteacher, Red Rose Primary School
